Scale Formation on Heat Transfer Coils


EVAPCO successfully launched the Water and Energy Efficient eco-ATW, ATWE and the eco-ATC product lines last year to the global sales force generating tremendous excitement and numerous orders. 

Simultaneously,  EVAPCO's Research and Development group commenced a rigorous scale test on bare and finned tube coils to determine if scale would reduce thermal performance.  The results of this test are included in the New White Paper "The Effect of Scale Formation on Heat Transfer Coils" posted under Industry Links & Technical Papers, and concludes that:

  • The test results prove that the rate of scale formation on a heat transfer coil is independent of bare tubes or finned tubes. In this test, the scale formation was the same on both coil technologies.
  • The Ellipti-fin™ Coil Heat Transfer Technology offers a significantly higher thermal performance over the conventional bare tube coil when no scale is present.
  • The thermal performance of Ellipti-fin™ Coil Heat Transfer Technology is greater than that of a conventional bare tube coil when operating with an equal amount of scale formation on the coil’s surface.
